Mug printing technology: how is it made?

The choice of mug printing technology should always be based on the application.Durable, photo-quality mugs are printed using a sublimation process, but the largest number of mugs are produced with a logo using ceramic firing.

The advantages of ceramic firing

  •  dishwasher safe,

  • durable print,

  • ideal for large orders.

  • from one or two colours up to 4C prints

In addition to ceramic firing and sublimation, for small order quantities, we recommend tampon or screen printing, and for customized mugs we recommend engraving

Minimum order quantity: If you order 25 mugs, we can fulfill your order.

Which one to choose? Write us your idea and our colleagues will recommend the best technology for you, depending on the use and the number of pieces!

  • Useful questions and answers

Mug firing, like screen printing, requires the preparation of one sieve per colour.
The ceramic paint is pressed through a sieve onto a special paper, one colour after the other. The finished print is fixed with a layer of varnish.
Once the varnish has dried, the paint can be soaked off the paper and then applied to the walls of the mug with a deft movement.
The mug is then placed in the oven, where the sticker is burned onto the mug’s mantle

The mug has a special lacquer coating that makes it suitable for sublimation printing.
The process involves printing the graphic on transfer paper using sublimation ink. From the paper, the graphic is applied to the mug’s sleeve using a heat press.
The end result of the process is a beautiful 4C print, just like fired ceramic paints

Of course, we also fulfil smaller orders. The best way to do this is with sublimation technology, which is available for orders as small as 25 mugs. However, it is important to know that the sublimation process limits the number of mug types. We can also prepare screen print smaller quantities from 25 pieces.
